I had the chance to visit Martin Albrecht at the University of Bern (Switzerland). There I learned about Ir-catalyzed water-oxidation using specially designed pyridylidene amide ligands.
During my three days stay I had the chance to synthesize the ligands, to metallize them with iridium and to test the produced complex as catalyst in a water-oxidation process. We even managed to design a simple oxygen-detection as indicator for the successful water-oxidation (see video below)!
